Blaine's Growing Population

Blaine is currently Minnesota’s 9th largest city with a 2023 population of 74,000 residents. Blaine’s population grows by an estimated 1,200 residents annually. A city with such a large growing population requires strong law enforcement to provide safety, security, and protection. A growing city brings new demands to public safety, including increased crime, mental health challenges, and transportation safety.
All Minnesota citizens deserve to live in a safe community supported by a caring police force and sheriff’s department.
Supporting Our Police

Unfortunately, the trust in our police officers has begun to disappear. Police in our state are often attacked, harassed, and ignored. Around the country, new laws are limiting what police officers can do to protect citizens. Public opinion has also shifted so much against law enforcement that many cities are cutting funding, universities are terminating contracts, and communities are opting for other forms of protection. Communities are becoming more unsafe as crime continues to increase in urban and suburban areas. Our law enforcement require the necessary support, resources, and training in order to better serve our community.
Improving Safety to Schools

In 2023, Governor Walz signed a law that restricted school resource officers' ability to effectively provide safety in schools. School resource officers provide daily security while interacting with students, teachers, and faculty. Police departments and concerned parents voiced their concern over the language used in the law. As a result, many police departments removed their officers from schools to prevent lawsuits.
In September 2023, Anoka-Hennepin School District lost all twelve of its school resource officers for its middle and high schools.
In March 2024, after months of community pushback, this law was revised to not apply to school resource officers. Many school districts went without school officer protection for seven months. Minnesota laws need to make sure that police officers can do their job without unnecessary restraints that prevent them from protecting citizens. Minnesota communities need strong leadership to make sure that unsafe and irresponsible laws like this never get enacted.
